My site does not appear on Google
· by the Agence Web Premium team, Guéliz Marrakech
Direct answer: two very different situations: either your site is not not indexed — Google does not know it — either it is indexed but misclassified. The test takes ten seconds: type site:yourdomain.ma in Google.
This seven-point diagnosis covers the causes we actually encounter. Most are verified for free in just a few minutes.
Pre-test: is your site indexed?
In short: Type site:yourdomain.ma into Google. If no results appear, the site is not indexed — this is a technical problem. If your pages are showing, it's a ranking problem.
This distinction changes the entire diagnosis.
No results: Google doesn't know your site. Possible causes: blocking by robots.txt, noindex tag, site too recent, or total absence of incoming links. See points 1 to 3.
Results are displayed: Google knows you but ranks you behind your competitors. See points 4 to 7.
Point 1 — Does robots.txt block Google?
In short: Open yourdomain.my/robots.txt. If you read “Disallow: /” there, you explicitly prohibit indexing.
This is a common cause and easy to correct. It often occurs after going online: the site was developed with a security block, and no one has removed it.
A correct robots.txt allows crawling and indicates the location of the sitemap. The correction takes five minutes.
Point 2 — Is a noindex tag lying around on your pages?
In short: View the source code of your page and search for “noindex”. Its presence prohibits indexing, page by page.
On WordPress, there is a setting called “ask search engines not to index this site”. Checked during development, it is often forgotten when put online.
Also check the settings of your SEO extension: certain pages can be excluded individually.
Point 3 — Have you declared your site to Google?
In short: Create a Search Console account, verify site ownership, and submit your sitemap. It's free and significantly speeds up indexing.
Google will eventually find a site on its own, but it can take weeks. Search Console reduces this time to a few days.
The procedure: create the account, validate ownership, submit the sitemap, then request the indexing of your main pages one by one.
Search Console will also tell you precisely why certain pages are not indexed.
Point 4 — Are your pages targeting the right keywords?
In short: A page without a clear keyword in its title and H1 doesn't rank for anything. Check every important page.
Very common mistake: a home page whose title is simply the name of the company. If no one looks for your name, no one will find you.
An effective title associates the service and the city: “Plumber in Marrakech – 24-hour troubleshooting” rather than “Home – So-and-So Company”.
Same principle for the H1, which must appear only once per page.
Point 5 — Is your content sufficient?
In short: A 200-word page almost never ranks on a competitive query. Allow 800 to 1,500 words for a service page.
Google compares your page to those that already rank. If your competitors publish 1,500 detailed words and you offer 200, the outcome is predictable.
It's not about filling in: it's about actually answering the questions your customers are asking. Price, deadlines, area of intervention, process, guarantees.
Point 6 — Do you have a Google Business Profile?
In short: For a local activity in Morocco, it is often more decisive than the site itself. It is free.
On a local search, Google first displays a map with three establishments. Without a file, you will never appear there.
To do: create the file, check it, enter category, hours, photos and description, then ask your customers for reviews.
This is the action with the best effort/result ratio for a local business or service.
Point 7 — Is your site too slow or poorly adapted to mobile?
In short: Google ranks mainly on the mobile version. A slow site or poorly displayed on the phone is at a disadvantage.
Test with PageSpeed Insights. Below 50 on mobile, this affects your ranking and especially your abandonment rate.
