Why Meta before Google for many Moroccan businesses

A restaurant, a beauty salon, a clothing shop or a gym is not searched for by name: it is discovered. For those businesses existing demand on Google is thin, but the Instagram audience is massive and local. Conversely a plumber, a lawyer or a mechanic is searched for at the moment of need: there, Google comes first.

What Meta does better

Creating demand, showing a product visually, filling a short-term calendar, re-engaging people who already visited your site, and reaching one precise city on a small budget.

What Meta does less well

Capturing urgency. Nobody scrolls Instagram looking for a locksmith at 11 pm. For urgency it is Google and the business profile.

The real budget, in dirhams

ObjectiveRealistic monthly budgetWhat to expect
Test an offer900 to 1,500 DHLearn whether the creative and audience work
Fill a local calendar1,500 to 4,000 DHSteady flow of messages and bookings
Sell online4,000 DH and aboveMeasurable order volume, calculable return

Below 30 DH a day the algorithm has too little data to learn: the campaign stays in its learning phase and costs more per result. A budget concentrated on one offer beats a budget split across five.

Creatives that work in Morocco

Vertical video shot on a phone

It almost always beats the polished Photoshop visual. Moroccan viewers recognise a studio ad instantly and scroll past. A fifteen-second video, shot in your own premises, in your own voice, drives more engagement and costs less.

The price on screen

Hiding the price to "make them ask" mostly makes them leave. Showing "from" filters out browsers and drives down the cost per qualified message.

Darija in the copy

For a local audience, transliterated Darija often outperforms formal French. For a tourist or B2B audience, the opposite. One campaign, one language.

Where to send people

This is the decision that changes everything, and it is almost always the worst made.

WhatsApp — the default in Morocco

The "Send message" button opens a conversation with pre-filled text. No form, no email, no waiting. It is the best converting destination for local services, provided someone answers quickly.

A dedicated page, not the home page

If you send traffic to the site, send it to a page that speaks exactly to the offer in the ad. An ad about wedding catering menus landing on a caterer's home page loses half its visitors in three seconds.

The Pixel, even if you start small

Install the Meta Pixel on day one, even with no campaign running. It builds an audience of visitors you can retarget later for almost nothing. A site without a Pixel is six months of lost data.

How to know it pays

Three numbers are enough: cost per message or per purchase, your own reply rate, and average basket. If a message costs you 12 DH, you convert one in five, and your basket is 400 DH, you spend 60 DH to collect 400. As long as that maths holds, raise the budget. The moment it degrades, it is the creative wearing out, not the audience running dry.

Meta and Google together

The two are not opposed. The most effective pattern for a Moroccan business: Meta to be discovered and create demand, the site and Google profile to capture that demand when it comes back searching for your name. A Meta campaign measurably lifts branded searches on Google — and those searches are free.
